Measuring Guide
Let's get started...
"Measure twice, cut once", you've heard the saying. With a few easy steps, this measuring guide should give you the know-how to becoming a pullout shelf measuring expert! Please don't hesitate to Contact Us with any questions you have throughout the process.
Step 1. Cabinet Style
-
Face Framed Cabinet
Face Framed cabinets have a border of wood molding "stile" around the opening of the cabinet similar to a picture frame, making the inside wider than the framed opening.
-
Frameless/Euro Cabinet
Frameless cabinet have no framing around the opening, the inner side-walls go out to the front of the cabinet opening. Usually the hinges on these cabinets are bulky and attached to the inner wall.
Step 2. Identify Obstacles
-
Door Protrusion (Common)
Caused by certain types of hinges or the hinge's adjustment, for upper shelves. Measure in between the door(s) to avoid any sort of collision with the Sliding Shelf.
-
Plumbing/Wiring (Common)
Plumbing or interior obstacles such as outlet boxes etc. can be a neusence. Use a Carpenter's Square up against the obstacle to find the Depth or Width measurement appropriate to fit this scenario.
-
Acute Door (Uncommon)
Sometimes door handles/knobs or other things can make it so the door doesn't fully open at least 90º. Use a Carpenter's Square with the long end against the open door and measure to the corner.
Step 3. Width Measuring
-
Face Framed (Lower)
SINGLE DOOR
Measure from the most protrusive part of the Door Hinge to the opposite Frame.
DOUBLE DOOR
Measure from the most protrusive part of one Door Hinge to the opposite Door Hinge. -
Face Framed (Upper)
SINGLE DOOR
If there is no Door Protrusion, measure from Face Frame to Face Frame. Otherwide measure from Door Edge to Face Frame.
DOUBLE DOOR
If there is no Door Protrusion, measure from Face Frame to Face Frame. Otherwise measure from Door Edge to Door Edge. -
Frameless (Lower)
SINGLE DOOR
Measure from the most protrusive part of the Door Hinge to the opposite wall. If you're using a BASE mount deduct 1/4" from this measurement. (only for single door)
DOUBLE DOOR
Measure from the most protrusive part of the Door Hinge to the opposite Door Hinge -
Frameless (Upper)
SINGLE DOOR
Measure from the most protrusive part of the Door's Edge to the opposite wall. If you're using a BASE mount or HALF SHELF mount deduct 1/4" from this measurement. (only for single door)
DOUBLE DOOR
Measure from the most protrusive part of the Door's Edge to the opposite Door Edge
Kitchen Drawers
-
Do Not Measure Existing Drawers
If you provide us this measurement, the shelf you order will not fit. Please don't measure ANY existing drawers or pull out shelves to get your Width Measurement.
-
Face Framed Drawer Opening
Measure the Framed Cabinet Opening from the most protrusive framed edge to the opposite frame.
-
Frameless Drawer Opening
Measure from the Cabinet's Interior Wall to the opposite wall. Side Mount is the best installation for this scenario.
Step 4. Depth Measuring
-
Face Framed
If there are no Depth Obstructions, measure from the Cabinet's Back Wall to the Back Edge of the Face Frame.
-
Frameless
If there is no Depth Obstructions, measure from the Cabinet's Back Wall to the Front Edge of the cabinet's opening.
NOTE: Our Custom Pull Out Shelf Depth options are in 2" Increments, ranging from 11 3/4" to 31 3/4" (i.e. 21 3/4", 19 3/4", 17 3/4" etc.). Please ensure you have at least a 1/4" of space from your actual Depth Measurement to ensure a proper fit.
Ex: If your cabinet depth measures 23 1/2" our shelf depth 23 3/4" will not fit.
